What is rainbow ant?

Rainbow ants, also known as iridomyrmex purpureus, are small ants that come in a range of colors from green, blue, red, and purple. They are found primarily in Australia and are known for their unique iridescent bodies which reflect and change color depending on the angle of light hitting them. The ants are about 5mm in length and live in colonies of up to 1000 individuals. The colonies are typically found in dry, open habitats such as grasslands and savannas. Rainbow ants are omnivorous and feed on a variety of food sources including nectar, insects, and seeds. They play an important role in the ecosystem by contributing to soil health and seed dispersal.
